The Greatest Reason Why Businesses Don’t Take Advantage of Social Media Marketing

Fear has always driven us to make decisions based off of an emotion. Possibly the fear of failure, the fear of uncertainty, or the fear of not having control, because after all, isn’t that what fear is; being in a situation and not having control over the outcome?

Too often, I meet business owners who neglect the opportunity to promote and market their entity through social media. Why is this? What I have found is 87% of business owners who are NOT currently implementing a social media strategy simply avoid social media all together BECAUSE they have a fear of “uncertainty”. They are uncertain of “how” to create an efficient social media strategy and they are especially fearful of not knowing how to operate the different forms of social media. It’s not that they don’t see the value, but they hide behind “ignorance”.

Now, I’m not saying someone is “stupid” when I refer to ignorance. But what I am saying is they are ignorant to the “Know How”, the education and value of social media because no one has previously educated them. In other words, they just don’t fully comprehend how social media works and they might be fearful to admit it. They are “uncertain”.

So, how can we fix this?

With each client I take on, I create a segment of time that focuses directly on the education of social media. Not necessarily teaching them how to do it, but educating them on how it works. When you provide education and knowledge to the customer, you provide an “added value” above your required service and they begin to understand your importance more effectively. Telling someone how it works is one thing, but showing them its effectiveness is entirely more beneficial.

Just because business owners do not understand how to utilize social media does not mean that they “want” to avoid it altogether. Nor does it mean they don’t see the value.

So think about it, we do our taxes because we know we need to. We may not all exactly understand how it works and why it can work in our favor, but we still see the value. That value increases each time we sit down with our accountants and become educated on new laws and new requirements.

Social Media Marketing works the same way for many business owners. Although they may not understand at first, they just need to be educated.

The Truth to Business Social Media

Why YOU need a social media expert.

Lets face it, times are changing, businesses communicate differently, and customers have adapted new ways of receiving your message to them.

Social Media and online communication has been the driving force in many marketing campaigns within the past 2-3 years and only continues to grow. Many businesses have begun to focus their marketing budget on strictly social media and online advertisement. Why? Because that’s where people hang out! Over 70% of American’s now have an active Facebook account and are on their account at least twice a month.

So, where is your business in this mix?

Its simple, social media drives consumer engagement and feedback, and is one of the only measureable forms of marketing that are available today. Track your analytics by knowing who see’s your message, where they saw it, and what they did with it. What else could you want??

So ask yourself, DO YOU know how many of your clients are on social media right now? How many are you interacting with? How many customers need to know what you provide? How many referrals can you gain from one online customer? These are all questions you need to be asking yourself when considering a social media marketing campaign. BUT, at the end of the day, do you represent yourself in court? No, you hire an expert. So why attempt an effective social media campaign if you aren’t the expert? You don’t have the time to worry about studying social media, conducting industry research and online presence surveys, NOR do you have the time to sit on your computer or mobile device attempting to formulate quality content for your accounts.

Why The Best, Are Simply The Best

Why the best are simply the best.

Successful, top performers realize the importance of process-oriented work. They create an efficient system that becomes their life and they stick to that system like glue. Ok a little cheesy… but on a real note, many top performers know exactly what to do, when to do it, how to do it, and have a proven record of success BECAUSE they created a system that keeps them accountable to their own goals.

They identify prospects, leads, and potential clients, they place them into a “seeding” process and they go to work. They efficiently manage their time based on the priority of account as well as the time of day and focus their efforts strategically on those clients who are capable of producing results.

Take the time to create a process. Prioritize and plan each day, create time segments to focus on certain tasks, and write EVERYTHING down.

Top performers become successful because they follow their own proven process to results. Create your personal process today.

Should I Be Outsourcing My Business’s Social Media?

Here’s the bottom line: more companies each year are increasing their customer base through social media marketing AND with most companies in the US looking to raise their social marketing budgets this coming year, you could be at a MAJOR competitive disadvantage if you are not looking to do the same. Social Media has become one of the fastest and cheapest forms of measured advertising and has successfully helped company’s build extensive business development tactics such as increasing customer communication, building new customers and gaining extensive business brand awareness and exposure. Social Media SHOULD become a strategically planned out practice with tactics that align with your company’s vision and purpose. BUT, more often than not, companies think to leave this area of marketing “untouched” due to the “ignorance is bliss” idea… Companies do not engage social marketing practices because they often do not understand it and if they don’t understand it, they don’t realize the value and potential it has to offer.

For this reason, more and more social media based company’s have evolved, primarily to provide solutions to businesses who do not have the time or know how when it comes to effectively building a social media strategy and implementing it. These social media based companies focus on using their ability and expertise to build a relevant strategy that compliments the business vision, mission, and purpose to extensively gain awareness for the brand, develop the business through new customers and new communication tools, and begin generating NEW business through increased “credibility” and exposure. Social Media can become a powerful tool for generating testimonials from customers, which then leads to commanding your businesses credibility.

Here are a few points to consider when determining if its time for YOU to utilize the expertise of a social media company.

  1. You have become too focused on working within the business that you simply don’t have time to learn and implement the power of social media towards your marketing efforts
  2. You do not fully understand how social media functions, how the different platforms operate, and how to best represent your business through it.
  3. You have yet to see the value and potential. “It’s not too late”

If you believe you fall under any of these three categories, now is the perfect time to look into a social media based company who can provide you with the tools and education to take your business’s marketing effectiveness to a whole new level. Communication is Key

It seems like so many businesses today who differentiate themselves attempt to focus their efforts on customer service. But do they really understand the true definition of service? Think for a second, what does service mean to you? Being available, fulfilling the customers need, or maybe having a great smile each time they are greeted? But what about communication? This is the one thing each business thinks they do well and the one action we all take for granted most often. Unfortunately, for most companies, communication is actually the greatest lacking factor in the service they provide to customers. Lets be real here, what is great communication and customer service if you cannot respond quickly to our customers? You cannot leave someone waiting and hoping…..

The fact is: Customers want to feel important, they need that sense of belonging and valuable. They want to be appreciated. And the best way to ruin these emotions, is to disregard timely-mannered communication and ignore the need to respond quickly. They want to purchase and they want to purchase now! We live in a “now” society where we need everything immediately. So why not take advantage of this mindset of so many consumers?

When you respect their time, their interest, they will do the same for you. Focus on communicating with integrity, whether you have an immediate answer or not… They deserve a response.

The Importance of Passion

“Love what you do and you’ll never work a day in your life”. The quote we’ve all heard, but never believed, never actually reflected on. A simple statement that should push us to pursue our passion, to wake up each day knowing that we will make a difference and receive the fulfillment we all desire.

But why can’t we all take this to heart. What if money didn’t matter? What would you do? What would make you happy?

You see, work should be fulfilling through becoming passionate for something you enjoy doing. This is what pushes you out of bed each day, to grow and to influence. This is what separates great performers from average “workers”. They understand their value and their importance, the role they play within the bigger picture.

But without passion, there is no performance. Passion simply breeds performance because it connects an experience with an emotion and creates a realized “fulfillment” feeling. You feel productive, confident, and good about what you achieve.

To each his own… We all have things we enjoy, actions that push us to be better and people that help us grow. But it is our responsibility to discover what we are truly passionate about and what gives us the fulfillment we desire.

So think on this, what do you love? What do you find joy in doing? What happens throughout the day that makes you truly say, I am fulfilled through doing this?

What would you do if money didn’t matter?

So you want to sell shoes…

How do you show someone your heart? Better yet, you’ve got the resume and the experience, the credibility on paper… but how will your employer ever see your heart and your intentions? Oh yea…and doing this in just a matter of minutes?

You see, I feel like we are faced with choices everyday. Decisions that will define or character and shape our future. And all these things can show the true intentions of our heart. Almost like a reputation, something that takes time to establish and can only be accredited by the actions we take and the decisions we make. The bible says, out the mouth comes the desires of our heart. Sooner or later we become revealed, our true intentions and what we truly care about.

So what if we focus on showing someone, not just what we can do, but why we can do it and what has shaped our lives over time to create in us such a passion for what we do. We have to understand our own value before we try to convince someone of it. You can’t sell something you don’t believe in, just like you can’t make someone believe in you if you cannot believe in yourself. So you like to sell shoes… why? What shaped your life to discover your passion?

Diversify Yourself

So we want to reach new customers, through new ways. This is obvious. But not everyone does it. To stand out we must seek out things that no one else is doing. We must do what nobody is doing in order to reap what no one is reaping. So diversify yourself. Your business. Your profile. Learn to stand out in the crowd.

In the hunting world, companies are not on the edge of technology and it shows with how they choose to reach customers. Its so outdated and old school. Still trying to advertise on TV and in store promotion. Imagine if these companies reached out to you the consumer more often, on a one to one basis and showed they care about getting to know you. Oh how things would change. But unfortunately not many are. But those who are continue to win the war in competition and are constantly learning how to engage their customers. Get to know them. Reach out and conversate, engage and involve. They want to feel wanted. Everyone does. So use this.

Gaining The Edge, Through Confidence

So maybe you know a little about your brand and about your image, you’ve got your social media looking good and some key relationships built but there still feels to be something missing. That something is the belief in you and your abilities. Without confidence in yourself you can never utilize the tools that you have worked so hard to build. But how do we do that?

Its simple, you have to give yourself pep talks everyday. Sounds cheesy but it’s the truth. God created each of us individually and with a unique gift. We have to believe that our God is for us and not against us and if we pursue his will, he will bless us in due time. Studying the word, there are so many uplifting verses speaking about how God created you with a gift and a purpose. But you have to speak these things over yourself and truly believe that you have ability. Everyday, we have to speak positive things over our lives. If we can surround ourselves with positive influences and like-minded people, we will gain this confidence over time. Success surrounds itself with success. If you can surround yourself with successful and uplifting, positive people and constantly speak good things over your life, you will gain that confidence you need to push your success farther.

The Value in Relationships

I think we often take for granted the relationships given to us. We are blessed sometimes beyond what we can see or recognize. Everyday people enter and leave our lives. But what if we could put more value to that or take more from the relationships we have. I feel like we don’t see those in our lives because we feel they have nothing to “offer” us. We pick and choose whom we relate to or care about based on what they can give to us or do for us. Such selfish thinking but unfortunately it’s the truth. I am guilty and I’m sure you are as well. I often choose to invest my time and energy into those people that I know could do something for me and maybe have something I want. Like financial status, connections to jobs or some type of knowledge, hobbies, and other relationships I may desire. There are so many reasons beyond these that we take for granted each and every day. But what if we changed that. What if we invested all our time into the people we feel like we can impart something into? What if life really did become about giving instead of receiving. I think that’s something we can change because its something we’re called to do. So start today. Think not of who exists in your life that you can get something from, but think more of what you can offer someone else. It wont be hard to find these types of relationships in your life, they are the ones that you never spend any time around…
